1959 BURNS-WEILL 'Super Streamline' RP2B Bass
Being largely handmade, body shape does differ from example to example, but here the bass-side has been drastically reshaped subsequent to purchase.
Note replacement door hinge tailpiece!
Comparison with another example
Van Gent tuners, Unusual offset V-shaped neck-profle.
Highly impractical rear-mounted jack-socket(!)
Update 2010:
This playable and irreplacably rare bass was subsequently spotted for sale on ebay, marketed as an 'Art Project'. It had been boldly band-sawed into 20-odd x 2" sections with these separated pieces then nailed to a backboard and sprayed a uniform white... yes, Pickups and Tuners in place and sawn through too... I lost many night's sleep over this barbaric act! As if this bass hadn't belonged in a museum already! If the purpose of Art is to provoke a STRONG emotional reaction and thereby encourage new forms of thought, and re-assessments of existing beliefs, then - Bravo!
